Adobe Creative Cloud applications (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Premiere Pro) are essential tools for creative work in education and professional environments. Widely used in design, marketing, media, and communication fields, Adobe software is a standard for visual creation, layout design, and video production. An Adobe Illustrator certification helps students and job seekers demonstrate their proficiency in a vector graphics design application and supports their academic success and long-term career readiness.
Tosa certification for Adobe Illustrator measures real proficiency with no prerequisites. It is ideal for students and adult learners seeking to validate their skills in vector graphic design, illustration, and visual content creation.
The Tosa for Adobe Illustrator certification exam evaluates five key domains:
These questions focus on general knowledge of the software and its interface as well as the type of files that can be created. More specifically, the skills cover the most common operations and actions that can be performed within Illustrator in the different color modes and according to the intended purpose.
The questions in this domain range from advanced handling of objects and combining objects to more complex design and effects, and advanced management of the text.
In this domain, candidates are tested on the structure of illustrations (stacking of objects, arrangement of layers, and blending modes) and advanced functions for high precision object processing (spot colors, transparency, advanced blending modes, merging/cutting operations between objects).
This domain focuses on the basic knowledge of the file formats that can be generated as well as on their specific technical features for production purposes: production objectives and specific operations.
This domain evaluates foundational knowledge of Adobe Illustrator. It includes understanding the software's purpose in vector graphics, its role in visual identity and illustration, and its common uses across design industries. Questions focus on recognizing the difference between vector and raster graphics, understanding Illustrator’s core tools, and situating it among other design tools.
The Tosa certification exam for Adobe Illustrator lasts one hour and uses a 35-question adaptive exam drawn from a pool of more than 110 items, including multiple-choice and interactive questions. The test evaluates a candidate’s skills and knowledge in the five domains presented above and selects questions from five difficulty levels depending on the abilities of the test taker.
Tosa certification exams are not open book. The certification tests must be taken in a secure environment and are proctored at all times in accordance with the Tosa Exam Policy. Adaptive testing produces a unique sequence of items for each candidate, reducing the risk of cheating and item memorization. In-person and remote proctoring options are available.
The certification is valid for 3 years. Earners may retest anytime to improve their score or to maintain their certification. There is a minimum 24-hour waiting period between two retakes. Candidates receive a new version of the test with each attempt.
The result of the exam is a numeric score between 1 and 1000 points associated to a proficiency level. It is calculated using a pattern-scoring model (IRT). The minimum score required to earn the certification is 551. Certification earners receive a Tosa certification diploma that indicates the test date, the score, and the proficiency level achieved. It contains a unique authentication code for online verification. Earners with a score of 551 and above are also eligible to receive a Credly digital badge.
